A passport book lasts for 10 years and will allow you to travel anywhere in the world, which means that you can travel out of the country as often as you like for 10 years before you would have to renew your passport. You can apply for a passport book at many Post Office locations. At some locations, they’ll even take your passport photos for an additional fee. Use the online PO Locator’s tool to find a nearby Post Office that accepts passport applications at www.usps.com or call 1(800) 275-8777. The normal processing time is 4-6 weeks. However, for those needing expedited services, a passport book can be received in 3 weeks for an additional fee of $ 60.00 per passport.
For new passport applications, you should bring the following:
1. Your Completed Application
You can complete it online through the State Department’s web site, or print and complete it by hand. New applicants, renewals, name changes or corrections, and lost or stolen passports each require a different application.
2. Two Types of Identification, with Copies of Each
You’ll need one proving U.S. citizenship…

… and one current I.D.
