Changing Lives One Program at A Time

Here at Students Going Global, we recognize the value in outward bound educational experiences. We offer six year round Youth Development Programs meeting with students once a week for two hours funded by Students Going Global, where students become globally competent, develop community projects, volunteer and explore the world around them locally, nationally and internationally. Each program provides an opportunity for students to travel abroad funded by Students Going Global, utilizing only credible pre-packaged Educational Tours Abroad through reputable educational travel program providers. Upon program completion, students receive Global Citizen Certificates for traveling abroad with Students Going Global and becoming globally competent students. Student participants are selected through our partnerships with Detroit area high schools and Community Organizations. Our ultimate goal at Students Going Global is to become a staple in Detroit and a national organization, creating thinkers, leaders and doers who become major contributors to their communities and to a global society.

What Are People Saying About Students Going Global?

“Students Going Global will broaden perspectives, help to remove barriers to success and provide students with a much needed opportunity to explore the global possibilities. It is difficult to imagine all that you can be when you have a very limited view.”~Iris Ware, Former Board Chair at SGG
“An Educational Tour Abroad is a motivational tool, and it lets students know that they don’t have to settle.”~Tamecia Batiste

“I see this organization changing lives as well as families and becoming a national organization.”~Andrea McCaskill, Former Board Fundraising Coordinator at SGG

“It is important for youth to see the world. This exposure impacts their dream potential. It develops awareness for diversity and educates the whole child.”
~Gloria Cunningham, Former Board Resource Development Coordinator at SGG

“Much of the inner-city youth live “in a box” and merit current movie depictions as truth. Students Going Global will allow youths to have a firsthand perception of the world around them. It would also prepare them for the diversity of higher education and the work force. For some youths, Students Going Global may be their only opportunity to leave the country, the state, and possibly even the city.”
~Shaquana Snyder, Former Board Treasurer at SGG

Letter From The Founder

and making Educational Tours Abroad possible for disadvantaged youth

As the Founder of Students Going Global and as a former Teacher and Guidance Counselor totaling fifteen years in Detroit, Michigan, I saw a need for more outward bound educational experiences on a local, national and international level that would enable academically motivated, disadvantaged youth in at risk schools and in at risk neighborhoods to compete in a competitive, diverse, global economy.

In the 21st century, I do not believe that classroom education is enough.

All of our youth need opportunities for outward bound educational experiences that broaden horizons, stimulate learning, engage students and provide something tangible and meaningful that is going to make a significant difference in some way.

Even at the most basic level, for example, it is one thing to read about elephants and view images of them in a textbook. It is an entirely different experience to visit Thailand in Asia and actually ride on an elephant. Imagine the impact! The 21st century calls for new, innovative and creative means of educating our youth. We can no longer limit learning to a classroom.
