Travel Abroad with Us in College
Lead. Serve. Travel. Mentor.
The College Mentorship Program offers an innovative and accessible pathway for students attending a 4-year college or university in Detroit to incorporate multiple, meaningful travel abroad experiences into their undergraduate and graduate education as well as opportunities to lead, serve and mentor.
Participants have the opportunity to travel abroad annually as college mentors, alongside elementary, middle and high school students in Detroit enrolled in a global education program at Students Going Global. College mentors share their knowledge of college readiness, career pathways, and global awareness—before, during and after the global education program’s educational tour abroad experience—helping to shape the next generation of Detroit scholars.
This program not only creates life-changing travel abroad opportunities for college students, but also strengthens mentorship and leadership skills, increases postsecondary engagement in global education, and helps retain talented, globally minded leaders in Detroit. Through this program, students graduate from college more well-rounded, globally minded, self-aware, and connected to the world around them.
The program recruits college mentors through Detroit-area colleges and universities, with preference given to students pursuing degrees in international fields, STEM, or global studies.
Students interested in becoming a College Mentor must submit an application, complete a background check, and pay the full cost to participate in an educational tour abroad with Students Going Global.
College mentors given the designated role of College Mentorship Ambassador will recruit other college mentors, conduct meetings and lead activities between college mentors and global education program participants, and travel abroad for free as a College Mentorship Ambassador/Chaperone with Students Going Global.
